Workshops
The project will organise a series of workshops on strategic topics identified by a group of experts open to researchers and engineers from both academia and industry. The major outcome will be a 3, 5 and 10 years roadmap developing a shared European and Chinese vision of future GRID research perspectives for research and industrial communities. This vision will establish a clear Technological and Research Agenda on which both sides may collaborate

This first event was divided in three specific sessions.

- Grid Open standards (Open Source, Grid Usage and Future Expectations)
- Grid and the virtual computing environment programming (approach for grid programming component & API)
- Grid middleware - Globus, glite Unicore … (Description of the middleware in China and potential interoperability issues)

The roadmaps of importance in Europe and China were described to improve participants knowledge on existing grid activities and visions. An overview of Running R&D projects, Industrial and Research initiatives and experiences, and a general situation of the market in Europe and China were also presented.

  • The Second EchoGRID workshop took place in Beijing from 29 to 31 October 2007, hosted by the Computer Network Information Center - CAS. See presentations
    4 main topics were discussed:
    - New programming paradigms: chairman Zhiwei Xu
    - Trust & Security: chairman Michael Wilson
    - Grid Workflow: chairman Thierry Priol
    - Grid Middleware for Industrial applications: chairman Thomas Farhinger

This event has been organised in cooperation with two EC funded projects, GridComp and Bridge , and will run in parallel with the Fourth Grid Plugtests jointly organised by ETSI , INRIA and ERCIM
